Making Education Great Again: Evidence Over Slogans
In public discussions across Baltimore County, acronyms often get conflated. It is essential to be completely clear: MEGA stands for Making Education Great Again—a philosophy grounded entirely in academic excellence, sound fiscal stewardship, and evidence-based instruction designed for every child regardless of background or zip code.
The Historical Evidence
What the Largest Education Study in History Taught Us
1968
In the late 1960s, the federal government launched Project Follow Through—the largest, most comprehensive educational study ever conducted, assessing over 200,000 students across dozens of diverse communities.
The findings were unequivocal: direct, explicit instruction delivered dramatic gains in reading, math, and self-esteem for children from all economic backgrounds. Yet, decades later, school boards across the country abandoned these proven models in favor of untested educational fads.

1. Proven Academic Methods
Curricula must be chosen based on validated cognitive research rather than trends. Every student deserves classroom methods proven to deliver literacy and numeracy.

2. Fiscal Accountability
Taxpayer dollars must directly impact classroom instruction and student achievement, accompanied by complete transparency in public procurement.
