Qualifications: How do your skills and experience prepare you for the duties of the Board of Education?
As a lifelong Baltimore County resident, a parent of three children in
BCPS, and the elected District 3 Board of Education member, I bring proven leadership,
careful budget oversight, and a strong commitment to transparency and accountability. I
remain focused on student outcomes, academic achievement, and responsible, nonpartisan
decision-making, working with families and educators to deliver results for every student.
Current BCPS and school board practices in data reporting and public communication make it difficult to build the community trust necessary to do the important work of increasing student achievement. In my first 100 days I will work closely with community members, educators, staff, and Board members to identify the gaps in communication and work to develop and implement policies to address these concerns.
Priorities: What are your priorities for this office?
My priorities for Baltimore County Public Schools are clear: raise academic
achievement, ensure fiscal transparency, and strengthen school safety. I will advocate for high standards, effective instruction, and measurable results for every student. I will
demand responsible budgeting, open reporting, and accountability for every dollar spent. I will support practical safety measures and a positive school climate so students and staff can learn and work securely.
I believe that an individual can effectively serve on a school board even if they do not have children in public schools. The most important quality of an effective board member is that they have, as their guiding principle, a belief in the necessity and power of a fully funded, well-functioning public school system that can provide high quality educational opportunities to all students. Many parents of BCPS students do not hold that value, and many citizens without children in the public school system do hold that value
School Facilities: What steps would you take to address aging facilities and overcrowded schools?
I will address aging facilities and overcrowded schools through fiscal
transparency, ensuring every dollar is spent wisely to keep students safe and school
buildings secure. I will uphold high standards for educational resources and capital planning.
I will also require transparent, accurate data collection and reporting from residential
developers, community partners, and the school system to guide responsible growth and timely investments.
I taught in a Maryland school facing these exact challenges. Aging and overcrowded facilities diminish everyone's capacity to do their best work, and addressing them must be grounded in equity. BCPS has already conducted needs assessments. I would advocate for a process that uses the needs assessment results to suggest improvements most tied to student outcomes while considering community input. I would also advocate for transparency and accountability for project budgets and timely completion.
Workforce Development: How can the schools prepare students who are not college bound for employment and careers?
BCPS can prepare students for careers and employment, not only college, by expanding partnerships with reputable local businesses. I will support bringing proven industry experts into schools to offer courses in mechanics, auto repair, plumbing, electrical work, welding, and home repair. I will work to make career certifications accessible and respected, reducing stigma and creating clear pathways to skilled trades and good-paying jobs.
I had the pleasure of substitute teaching at Sollers Point Technical High School, where I was amazed by the training and opportunities available to students pursuing technical or career pathways. BCPS has some of the best vocational schools in Maryland. Students should continue to receive flexibility and support in their curriculum, as well as access to mentorship, internships, and industry partnerships as they explore their career and educational goals.
Community Involvement: How will you involve the community in supporting education?
I have been actively engaged across Baltimore County—listening to families, meeting with educators, and working with community partners to strengthen our public schools. As your District 3 Board of Education member, I have advocated for transparency, accountability, and student-focused decisions. If re-elected, I will expand this outreach, deepen collaboration, and continue delivering results that support quality education for every student.
As the District 3 representative, constituent relationships would be one of my top priorities. I will represent every resident, educator, and school in my district through honest, respectful dialogue. I am ready to go beyond internet rants and into people's schools and homes, empowering constituents to advocate at the school and district level as we work toward our common goal of a world-class education system for every child in Baltimore County.
